The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has released a video that demeans general and pediatric dentists that provide orthodontic treatment. Even worse, it misleads the public about the role such general and pediatric dentists play in orthodontics, and their education/training to provide specialized care.
The IAO was founded in 1961 to protect the rights of all dentists to practice orthodontics. The association cannot stand by when attacks of this nature are made public. The IAO will use the power of the membership to push back against the misleading message portrayed in the AAO Video. The IAO is taking the following steps.
- Written response to AAO requesting the removal of the video from all platforms
- Written the ADA, AGD, AGPO, the Deans and Orthodontic Chairs of every Dental School in the US to urge their support in the IAO’s protest of this video
- Informing current and past IAO members
- Informing General and Pediatric Dentists around the US
