Dear James, I do not know the research, however from my 37 years of experience, using MX & MN arch development appliances, the results are positive in improvement of respiration. If the airway is patent and the pt. is not a habitual mouth breather, the majority (particularly patients with CVMS 2 – 5) feel that there iS an improvement. Nevertheless, it is just an anecdotal evidence.

Dear Mariola, Center or off-center bend on a .o18 SS arch wire pointing gingivally. This configuration will bring crowns together and roots apart. In order to prevent crowns moving together you MUST place an open coil spring or tight closed coil spring in order to crystallize the position of the crowns. If it is a centre bend you will have equal and opposite moments without any intrusive or extrusive forces. Also, please ligature tie the brackets on the teeth in juxtaposition of the space where the tooth is missing.
