Introduction to the International Journal of Orthodontics (IJO)
The International Journal of Orthodontics (IJO) is a quarterly peer-reviewed clinical journal published by the International Association for Orthodontics (IAO).  It has been continuously published since 2002 and is the successor of the Journal of General Orthodontics. 

The IJO features original scientific and clinical articles on orthodontics, plus an editorial, practice tips and office management hints. The IJO’s purpose is to serve as an educational tool, as well as to present innovative treatment mechanisms as they are developed.

The International Journal of Orthodontics (IJO) is distributed to all IAO members and subscribers quarterly.  The cover photographs are chosen from submissions to an annual photo contest (open to all IAO members).

All past issues of the International Journal of Orthodontics are on the IAO website in the password-protected “Members Only” section. 

Article Submission Requirements
All article submissions must meet IJO Submission Requirements.  If there are additional questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the IAO.

International Journal of Orthodontics Subscriptions
Journal subscriptions cost US$40 per year for subscribers in the USA or Canada.  Journal subscription for any other location is US$60 due to the extra shipping costs.  The journal is published quarterly and may be purchased by the issue if sufficient extra copies are available (US$10 - USA & Canada; US$15 - any other country).

Photo Contest & Cover Photos
The annual “Best Orthodontic Photo Contest” is open and limited to all IAO members.  For submission requirements please refer to the Photo Contest Submission Guidelines.  The winning photo will be featured on the cover of the IJO and runner-ups may also be published on the cover of the IJO.

Past Publications
The IJO is the successor of the Journal of General Orthodontics and a journal by the name of International Journal of Orthodontics, which was published in the 1960s.  All past IAO publications are available online in the password-protected “Members Only” section of the website. 

The International Academy of Orthodontics’ (the IAO’s original name) International Journal of Orthodontics was published from January 1962 to January 1968.  From 1984 to 1989 the IAO co-published The Journal.  A new journal was created in 1990 entitled the Journal of General Orthodontics.  This journal was published under this name from March 1990 to Winter 2001 at which point it changed its name back to the original International Journal of Orthodontics.

Also the American Association for Functional Orthodontics’ (AAFO) The Functional Orthodontist, which was published from 1984-2007 is in the IAO Members Only section.
