Waldemar Brehm Education Award
The Waldemar Brehm Education Award was established in 2005 to recognize doctors in developing
countries for their efforts to better their orthodontic education. Its intention
is to further the recipient’s knowledge, which will in turn benefit the doctor’s
local community. The memorial award was named after
Dr. Waldemar Brehm, who was a leader within the International Association
for Orthodontics (IAO) from its founding in 1961 (then called the International
Academy of Orthodontics). Dr. Brehm later served as both President and Executive
Director of the IAO and remained active in the association throughout his life.
The Waldemar Brehm Education Award consists of a complimentary IAO Annual Meeting Registration,
a monetary award, and a plaque commemorating the achievement.
